The car business has always been my love. It came easy to me right from the beginning. I”m a California girl, car culture is embedded in my psyche. I never played with dolls when I was young, I wanted cars, cars and more cars. Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Big Daddy Roth Rat Fink cars….anything that I could dream of that went fast. As I became older, it became clear what my career choice would be.
Nothing beats the thrill of having fun, selling cars and making money. Though my journey has seen some pitfalls, I always remember what my dear departed husband used to say, “Muffin, they’re all just tin and rubber.” No matter how crazy it gets, the ups and downs of the business: the late nights, the screaming customers, the bad cash flow, bizarre employees, the Factory or the Bank….keeping it in perspective is what’s helped me stay sane.
In the upcoming posts here I’ll share some glimpses of my car business history along with my take on our business as it is today. Shocking and hilarious stories mixed with some time-tested tools for success and profit.
Climbing out of this recession is just the latest challenge–and it’s nothing more than that. Car people don’t know the meaning of giving up. Before we used to turn to booze and recreational vices, today we laugh a bit and persevere (well, maybe not all of us). Staying grounded in your integrity and your business strategy is the key. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.
